About the Role: Patient Access Liaison II

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Access Liaison II to join our Access Center team. As the primary point of contact for access to USC academic medical centers and the USC Health Sciences Campus, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient care. This full-time, 8-hour day position is non-exempt and part of a union, offering a competitive salary and opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming and outgoing telephone calls, electronic messages, and other web-based communications using a call management system.
• Respond to basic inquiries and refer complex issues to appropriate medical personnel, ensuring timely and effective communication.
• Schedule and confirm initial and follow-up medical appointments, register patients, and verify insurance coverage to advise patients of any estimated financial responsibility.
• Perform data entry, ensure data integrity, and reconcile as needed to maintain accurate patient records.
• Demonstrate competency in the quality of work and knowledge of a Patient Access Representative, striving for first-call resolution and high-level customer service.
• Maintain a warm, courteous, and professional demeanor in accordance with USC/Keck customer service standards, interacting with both internal and external contacts.
• Contribute effectively as a productive team member to the Patient Access Center and USC/Keck, accepting alternate assignments as needed.
• Follow USC/Keck Communications standards and policies, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Utilize organizationally defined systems to perform patient communication, scheduling, and data management.
• Coordinate care with patient coordinators, nurses, and physicians to secure appointments for patients and referring physicians.

Essential Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a call center, customer service, and/or healthcare department/environment (or a combination thereof).
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to multi-task and maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in healthcare, business, or operations field strongly preferred.
• Vocational certificates in healthcare, such as appointment scheduling, registration, insurance verification, or medical assisting, are highly valued.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and various health insurance types is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and high-level computer literacy, including practice management scheduling systems, is strongly preferred.
• Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, Chinese, or other languages, are highly desirable.
