About Our Company and the Role

As a Remote Oracle WebLogic Server Administrator, you will play a critical role in our IT infrastructure, providing expert guidance and hands-on support for the management and optimization of our Oracle WebLogic environment. This role requires a strong and diverse skillset, including extensive experience in Oracle WebLogic Server administration, scripting, and performance optimization.
Work Environment and Schedule
Initially, the selected candidate will be required to work on-site for three months at our client's location in New York City. The regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. EST, totaling 35 hours per week, exclusive of a one-hour unpaid meal break. After the initial on-site period, the possibility of remote work will be assessed by the project manager. Flexibility in working hours may be required for scheduled maintenance, including potential weekend or after-hours work.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance Optimization: Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks within the Oracle WebLogic Servers to ensure optimal application performance for end-users.
- Automation and Scripting: Utilize scripting languages such as Bash and WLST to automate tasks, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce manual errors.
- Backup and Recovery Strategy: Develop and implement a robust backup and recovery strategy to protect critical data, including conducting periodic recovery drills to ensure data integrity.
- Monitoring and Alerts: Collaborate with the IT team to establish proactive monitoring and alerts for system health and resource usage, ensuring prompt incident response and minimizing downtime.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain up-to-date documentation regarding server configurations, security protocols, and overall infrastructure architecture, facilitating knowledge sharing across teams.
- Capacity Planning: Evaluate historical usage patterns to predict future resource needs, supporting informed infrastructure decisions and ensuring scalability.
- Incident Response and Problem Resolution: Provide advanced technical support for escalated incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive solutions to minimize future occurrences.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, effectively conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and ensuring seamless collaboration.
- Patching and Maintenance: Coordinate quarterly installations of patches and upgrades for Java, ensuring proper procedures are followed during server downtime and minimizing the impact on users.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- Extensive Oracle WebLogic Server Administration Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience administering Oracle WebLogic Server in enterprise environments, with a strong understanding of version 12.2.1.3.0 or higher.
- Scripting Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and WLST, with the ability to automate tasks and enhance operational efficiency.
- Clustering, Load Balancing, and High Availability: Strong understanding of clustering, load balancing, and high availability configurations, ensuring optimal application performance and reliability.
- Incident Management and Resolution: Proven incident management and resolution skills, including on-call support and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with Red Hat Systems: Familiarity with Red Hat systems and a strong understanding of Linux/Unix environments.
- U.S. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required for this role.
- Bachelor's Degree: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following skills and qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager: Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) and other monitoring tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of ITIL Framework: Knowledge of ITIL framework and ITSM best practices can be beneficial.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as Oracle Certified Professional or other industry-recognized certifications, can be an added advantage.
