Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Part-Time Remote Adult Education and Literacy Instructor (ESL, ABE or HSE) to join our team. As a part-time instructor, you will work remotely and be required to spend some time in our office. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional practices to support adult learners in achieving their educational goals. This is a grant-funded position, and continuation is dependent upon program need, satisfactory performance, and availability of grant funds.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction: Provide high-quality instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), or other Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) services as assigned.
- Curriculum Development: Apply research-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies.
- Lesson Planning: Develop and implement lesson plans that integrate instruction across content areas and cater to the diverse needs of adult learners.
- Assessment and Monitoring: Use formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document student progress, collect and manage accurate data for program improvement and accountability.
- Classroom Management: Maintain knowledge of program regulations, policy, and procedures, and supervise and monitor academic assistants.
- Community Engagement: Make referrals to community agencies or postsecondary institutions as appropriate, advocate for adult education, and promote program services.
- Professional Development: Participate in required paid professional development activities, use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or a content-related field (preferred).
- Previous teaching experience, with adult education experience preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of reading, writing, and math instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using technology to support instruction and student learning.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
We are looking for candidates who possess:
- Experience in teaching ESL, ABE, or HSE.
- Knowledge of adult education principles and methods.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and implementation.
- Strong assessment and evaluation skills.
