Jefferson County Government is seeking a Paralegal for the Human Services Litigation Team of the County Attorney's Office. The role involves providing legal representation and support in various human services-related cases, including child abuse investigations and mental health cases, primarily focusing on preparing and organizing documents for electronic discovery.
Responsibilities
- Preparing legal files for court hearings
- Direct contact with the public, caseworkers, therapists, opposing attorneys, pro-se parents, and the Court
- Filing time sensitive documents
- Assisting with trial preparation
- Preparing correspondence and a variety of legal documents
- Electronic filing of state court documents
- Drafting routine pleadings in state court
- Preparing, reviewing and organizing documents for electronic discovery
- Redacting, numbering and compiling files
- Drafting privilege logs
- Performing a variety of clerical functions to relieve attorneys of day-to-day administrative functions of the office
- Other duties as assigned
Skills
- A minimum of one year of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience
- Associates Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Paralegal certificate or associate degree and 3 years of related work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience
- Prior experience working in a law office or legal department
- Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and experience with electronic discovery and electronic court filing preferred
- Strong written and oral communication
- Independent critical thinking and analysis
- Strong problem-solving aptitude
- Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint etc.) Adobe Acrobat Pro and experiment with new software and systems
- Ability to read and interpret statutes and legislation
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Attention to detail and deadlines
