Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The primary purpose of the library is to support the informational
needs of the students at the university. The primary purpose of the
Cataloging Department provides effective, accurate tools that
assist our users in locating information resources, either locally
or remotely through the Internet. The cataloging department,
organizes, classifies and maintains information resources in all
formats and processes them in a timely manner.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Metadata and Cataloging Librarian provides leadership in
cataloging, metadata creation, and record management to ensure
accurate description and discovery of the library’s collections.
This position establishes cataloging practices and priorities;
oversees the creation, modification, and selection of records and
metadata for print and digital materials.
The position supervises two staff members and plays a key role in
the library’s record management, focusing on metadata migration,
bibliographic record cleanup, and configuration of the knowledge
base holdings in existing and future library integrated systems.
The metadata and cataloging librarian is expected to contribute to
various committees, collaborations, and other professional
activities.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA
-accredited program
• Experience with cataloging and metadata standards ( RDA, MARC,
LC classification, LCSH ).
• Familiarity with OCLC WMS workflows for cataloging,
circulation, and resource management, including knowledge base
configuration.
• Supervisory or workflow coordination experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE, including metadata and
holdings management.
• Familiarity with e-resource knowledge bases and discovery
layers.
• Experience in problem-solving for library-wide weeding and
inventory projects.
• Experience with data migration, metadata remediation, or
large-scale cleanup projects.
• Knowledge of additional metadata schemas (e.g., Dublin Core,
MODS, BIBFRAME ).
• Demonstrated ability to document workflows and train staff
effectively.
• Demonstrated experience with bibliographic record management,
cleanup, or metadata projects.
• Two years of library experience and experience in
cataloging.
