Role Overview
As a Secondary Special Education Teacher at the Doña Ana County Detention Center, you will be responsible for providing high-quality educational services to middle school and high school students who are detained at the center. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with other educators and support staff

- Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly, using data-driven approaches to inform teaching practices

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, including grades, attendance, and disciplinary actions
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must possess the following essential qualifications:
- A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in education from a regionally accredited college or university
- A valid New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Teaching License
- A valid New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Special Education License
- A recommendation from your degree-granting institution and/or previous employing institution
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a detention center or alternative education setting
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches
- Experience with technology integration and online learning platforms
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in Spanish
