About the Gruskin Learning Center
The Gruskin Learning Center at Penn State Greater Allegheny is a dynamic and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality academic support services to students, including tutoring, academic coaching, and study skills development. As a Peer Tutor, you will be an integral part of our team, working closely with students, faculty, and staff to create a positive and inclusive learning community.
Key Responsibilities
As a part-time Student Peer Tutor, your key responsibilities will include:
- Attending training sessions to develop your tutoring skills and knowledge
- Facilitating virtual study groups and providing academic support to students
- Keeping accurate records of tutoring sessions and submitting reports on time
- Assisting with promoting learning center events and distributing fliers
- Providing excellent customer service and maintaining confidentiality of student information
- Collaborating with the Gruskin Learning Center Director to address any issues or concerns
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements and qualifications:
- Be a current Penn State student with an eligible Work Study award
- Be a Penn State Greater Allegheny student in at least your 2nd semester
- Have knowledge in your subject area and a strong academic record (minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher)
- Be recommended by the course instructor or have a strong academic background in the subject area
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working in a tutoring or academic support setting
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Experience with virtual learning platforms and tools
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
