The Finance team plays a central role in supporting growth, improving visibility, and ensuring financial data flows cleanly from operations to leadership. Why This Role Matters We’re hiring a hands‑on Assistant Controller to play a central role in running the day‑to‑day accounting operation and delivering a clean, timely, and reliable month‑end close. This is not a purely review‑oriented role. It’s hands‑on, operational, and influential, with meaningful visibility to Finance leadership. You’ll work closely with the Controller, lead Staff Accountants, and help shape how accounting work gets done across a multi‑location operation. For the right candidate, this is a Controller‑in‑training opportunity — offering real ownership, increasing responsibility, and exposure well beyond routine accounting tasks. What You’ll Do Own the Close & Reporting - Drive execution of the month‑end close, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness - Review reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger activity - Step in to resolve issues and clear bottlenecks during close - Perform or oversee accruals, estimates, depreciation, and lease accounting (ASC 842) - Review balance sheet and P&L activity for accuracy and reasonableness - Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting Lead & Develop the Team - Supervise and develop two Staff Accountants - Provide clear direction, review feedback, and day‑to‑day guidance - Partner closely with the Controller to keep accounting operations running smoothly Analysis, Cash & Controls - Perform variance analysis versus budget and forecast and help explain results - Support cash flow monitoring, bank reconciliations, and working capital reporting - Assist with lender reporting and credit line compliance - Maintain strong documentation and support audit readiness - Support compliance activities including sales tax, licenses, and related filings - Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures Improve How Work Gets Done - Gain broad exposure across AP, AR, payroll, and the full close cycle as a backup resource - Support annual 1099 preparation and vendor inquiries - Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and improve close efficiency - Support automation and system enhancements and partner with IT on data integrity What Success Looks Like - Month‑end close runs smoothly, accurately, and on time - Balance sheet accounts are clean, well‑supported, and easy to review - Staff Accountants are producing stronger, more consistent work - Accounting processes are clearer, more efficient, and better documented - Finance leadership trusts you to own close execution during busy periods Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business - Progressive accounting experience supporting general ledger activity and month‑end close - Experience reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports - Familiarity with accounting principles; US GAAP knowledge strongly preferred - Advanced Excel skills (formulas, Pivot Tables, complex workbooks) - Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks or Dynamics a plus) - Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage deadlines independently - High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail How You Work - You take ownership and follow through - You raise issues early and come prepared with solutions - You’re curious about systems, data flow, and process improvement - You communicate clearly and thoughtfully — not just status updates - You stay steady and professional during close and high‑pressure periods What We Offer - A collaborative finance team that values accountability and accuracy - Meaningful responsibility and visibility within the Finance organization - Opportunities to grow technical depth, leadership capability, and system fluency - Support for ongoing professional development and learning - A remote‑first culture with optional hybrid collaboration for local employees Compensation & Benefits - Competitive base salary of $60,000–$65,000, aligned with experience and technical capability - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage to support your health and well‑being - 401(k) retirement plan with generous company match, helping you invest in your long‑term future - Mental health support resources, because sustainability matters — especially during busy periods - Flexible / unlimited paid time off, focused on trust, accountability, and getting the work done - Same‑day pay program, providing flexibility when life happens - Phone stipend where applicable to support remote and hybrid work Interview Process Screening call → interview with the Controller → final interview with the Controller and CFO, including a skills assessment.
