What You’ll Do: You don’t have to know a lot about agriculture, you’ll learn that on the job! You just have to have a willingness to learn and a desire to devote your skills to a greater purpose. This position is responsible for: • Formulates & implements training policy for the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), Division of Meat Inspection • Develops, modifies, updates & delivers training using variety of delivery methods (e.g., in-person & virtual individual & group sessions, Ohio Learn, Learning on Demand, AgLearn) • Monitors & independently assesses training effectiveness & training needs for Division employees through various methods (e.g., PIPP results, trend analysis) & plans training activities to meet those needs • Gathers & organizes training (e.g., prepares training materials, develops roster, provides logistical support) • Serves as liaison with USDA/FSIS regarding training needs & regulations • Consults with ODA HR and DAS Learning and Talent Development • Conducts comprehensive Food Safety Assessments (FSA) of state inspected establishments & on-site consumer protection assessments of meat & poultry establishments to verify the design & proper function of an establishment’s food safety & process control systems • Applies knowledge of microbiology, food science, biology, chemistry, &/or agriculture to assess scientific adequacy process control measures implemented by regulated establishments (e.g., Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), microbiological verification sampling protocols) • Provides training & guidance to field inspection staff by performing investigative work related to food processing &/or slaughter systems • Obtains information, gathers evidence, verifies facts in support of administrative or civil enforcement matters • Makes recommendations regarding type of enforcement action (e.g., suspension letters, deferral letters, letters of warning) We Support Diversity and Inclusion: ODA values its internal diversity and pledges to cultivate an inclusive and engaging environment for all employees where differences are embraced and celebrated.
