This position offers the opportunity to work from home while delivering the specialized teaching that students with disabilities need to access their education and reach their potential. In this role, you'll be responsible for the complete special education processfrom IEP development and implementation to direct instruction, progress monitoring, and team collaboration. Your students will depend on your expertise in differentiating instruction, adapting curriculum, and providing the individualized support outlined in their IEPs. The virtual environment demands innovative teaching approaches and strong technology skills, but it also enables creative, student-centered instruction that can be highly effective. What You Can Expect Your caseload will include 40-50 students spanning elementary through high school grades, representing various disability categories such as specific learning disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, other health impairments, and emotional disturbances. Working 35-37.5 hours weekly, you'll balance direct instruction time with lesson planning, IEP paperwork, progress monitoring, and collaboration. You might teach reading and math to elementary students with learning disabilities during morning sessions, then work with middle schoolers on study skills and organizational strategies in the afternoon. Your virtual classroom becomes a space where students receive focused attention, adapted materials, and teaching methods specifically designed for their learning needs. Core Responsibilities Your primary responsibility is delivering specially designed instruction that addresses IEP goals while building academic skills and independence. This involves creating detailed lesson plans that incorporate accommodations and modifications specific to each student's needs. You'll use multisensory teaching approaches, assistive technology, visual supports, and other evidence-based strategies to make learning accessible. Regular assessment of student progress informs your instructional decisionswhen students aren't making expected gains, you'll analyze the data and adjust your approach. Beyond instruction, you'll manage the administrative components of special education including writing and revising IEPs, documenting progress toward goals, and maintaining compliance with special education regulations. You'll lead or participate in IEP meetings, presenting student performance data and collaborating with teams to develop appropriate goals and services. Communication with families is crucialyou'll provide regular updates, share strategies for home practice, and partner with parents to support their child's learning. Collaboration with general education teachers ensures students receive necessary accommodations in all settings. You'll consult on instructional modifications, behavior management strategies, and ways to support students in virtual general education classes. You might co-teach certain lessons, provide push-in support, or offer professional development to help colleagues understand specific disabilities and effective interventions. Minimum Qualifications Must hold valid Kentucky teaching certification in Special Education. Master's degree required in Special Education, Learning and Behavior Disorders, or related special education field. Two years minimum of special education teaching experience in school settings. Demonstrated knowledge of special education law, IEP processes, and disability characteristics. Experience implementing accommodations, modifications, and specialized interventions. Comfortable with virtual teaching technology and learning management systems. Strong written communication skills for IEP documentation and progress reporting. Ability to build rapport with students and families through virtual platforms. Creative approach to teaching and problem-solving when students face learning challenges.
