We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team at Edison Middle School. As a Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal growth of students with disabilities, helping them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students, enhancing the educational process through instructional and non-instructional activities.
- Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning, develop basic life skills, and implement behavior modification plans.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and progress, while also observing and recording student performance.
- Assist with daily activities, including lunch, transportation, and hygiene/toileting needs, ensuring student safety and well-being.
- Sanitize classrooms and equipment using approved materials, maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
- Foster positive relationships with students, school staff, and parents, promoting a collaborative and supportive school community.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, you must meet one of the following licensure requirements:
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Current Illinois Substitute Teaching License
- Current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator
- Current Illinois Short Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional
If you do not already hold a teaching or substitute license, you may be eligible for licensure with:
- An associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
- 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution
- A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with a passing score on the ETS Parapro test or ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued:
- Experience working with students with disabilities or special needs
- Knowledge of child guidance principles, behavior management, and positive reinforcement techniques
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
