Solutions Architect II (Open Banking)

6-month contract to hire
Pay Range $90.00-95.00/hr.
Our client needs a senior-level Solutions Architect to support their growing Open Banking team. This role is responsible for defining solution architecture, shaping API strategy, guiding cloud/on-prem connectivity, and ensuring alignment with enterprise standards. The ideal candidate brings strong open banking domain expertise-particularly with FDX, OFX, aggregator integrations, and fintech API ecosystems.
Responsibilities
• Define solution architectures, integration patterns, and end-to-end technical designs for open banking initiatives.
• Lead architectural strategy for APIs, cloud connectivity, security controls, and data flows.
• Provide guidance on cloud architecture-specifically on AWS, our chosen cloud platform.
• Collaborate closely with enterprise architecture, cloud engineering, and internal solution teams to ensure adherence to organizational standards.
• Design architectures demonstrating how cloud services connect with on-prem API infrastructure.
• Work with X-Wave platform and related tooling to expose open banking APIs to external fintech companies and aggregators.
• Develop architectural diagrams, flows, and conceptual designs using tools such as Figma or similar.
• Participate in open banking discussions, helping determine which APIs to publish, support, or adopt.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to the team, including lightweight POC-level coding when necessary (not a hands-on coding role).
• Support overall roadmap planning and help influence the future architectural direction of the open banking platform.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field and three (3) years of enterprise, solutions and/or technical architecture related experience
• Or a High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) years of enterprise, solutions and/or technical architecture related experience
Preferred (not mandatory):
• Open Banking / FDX experience
Required if Open Banking experience is not present:
• Candidates must have strong experience in the following three areas:
1.Security & Identity
• OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, financial-grade APIs
2.Consent Management & Consumer Permissioning
3.Cloud Architecture
• WS experience required
Teachable / Optional Skills:
• PI management tools (we use MuleSoft and AWS API Gateway, but equivalents are acceptable)
• Event-based architecture (e.g., Kafka)
• Programming languages or frameworks (e.g., .NET Core)
