Senior Web Developer Company: AvocadoTech, Inc. Location: Fully Remote (US-based) Employment Type: Full-Time Salary Range: $130,000 – $165,000/year Reports To: VP of Engineering About AvocadoTech AvocadoTech is a fast-growing SaaS startup building smarter tools for the food and agriculture supply chain. Our platform helps growers, distributors, and retailers track freshness, reduce waste, and get better produce to more people. Founded in 2021 and backed by $14M in Series A funding, we're a remote-first team of 45 passionate builders spread across the US who believe great software can make the food system more sustainable. Our stack is modern, our culture is collaborative, and our Slack channels are always lively (the #avocado-recipes channel is legendary). The Role We're looking for a Senior Web Developer to take a leading role on our Product Engineering team. You'll own major features end-to-end, drive architectural decisions, and serve as a technical mentor to more junior engineers. This is a high-impact position where you'll shape the direction of our platform while working closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders across the business. This role is ideal for an experienced developer who thrives on solving complex problems, cares deeply about code quality, and wants the autonomy and influence that come with a senior position at a growing startup. What You'll Do • Architect, build, and ship complex, high-performance features across our React/TypeScript front end and Node.js/Express back end. • Lead technical design discussions and produce architectural proposals for new systems and significant feature work. • Own the reliability and scalability of critical platform components, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks. • Conduct thorough code reviews, setting and upholding engineering standards for the team. • Mentor junior and mid-level developers through pairing sessions, design reviews, and day-to-day guidance. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data teams to translate business requirements into sound technical plans. • Champion engineering best practices including testing strategies, CI/CD improvements, observability, and documentation. • Contribute to sprint planning and technical roadmap discussions, helping the team estimate work, manage trade-offs, and deliver predictably. • Evaluate and recommend new tools, libraries, and patterns that improve developer productivity and platform quality. What We're Looking For Required: • 5+ years of professional experience in full-stack or front-end web development. • Deep proficiency in React and TypeScript, with a strong understanding of component architecture, state management, and performance optimization. • Solid experience with server-side development using Node.js, Express, or a comparable framework. • Proven ability to design and build RESTful or GraphQL APIs. • Strong working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and experience writing and optimizing complex queries. • Comfort with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes). • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing at multiple levels (unit, integration, end-to-end). • A track record of mentoring other engineers and elevating team-wide code quality. • Excellent communication skills — you can articulate technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. • Comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment with strong async communication habits. Nice to Have: • Experience in the food, agriculture, or supply chain industry. • Familiarity with event-driven architectures or message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ). • Hands-on experience with observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry). • Contributions to open-source projects or a visible portfolio of technical writing. • Prior experience at a Series A–C startup, with comfort navigating ambiguity and rapid iteration. What We Offer • Competitive salary of $130,000–$165,000 depending on experience, plus annual performance bonuses. • Equity package — meaningful ownership with a four-year vesting schedule and one-year cliff. • Health, dental, and vision insurance fully covered for employees; 50% covered for dependents. • 401(k) with a 4% company match. • Flexible PTO — we trust you to manage your own time off responsibly. • $2,500 annual learning stipend for courses, conferences, books, or certifications. • Home office budget of $1,500 to set up your ideal workspace. • Fully remote with optional quarterly team offsites in Austin (travel covered by the company). • Coworking stipend of $200/month if you prefer working outside your home. Our Hiring Process • Application review — We read every application. No AI screening black boxes. • Introductory call (30 min) — A conversation with our recruiter about your background, goals, and what you're looking for. • Technical deep-dive (60 min) — A live problem-solving session focused on system design and practical engineering judgment. No LeetCode trivia. • Architecture discussion (45 min) — Walk us through a past project and the technical decisions you made. We're interested in how you think. • Team & culture conversation (45 min) — Meet members of the engineering and product teams. • Offer — If it's a mutual fit, we move quickly.
