Job Title: On-Call / As-Needed Grant Writer (1099 Contractor)
Organization: GAFS Co. (Grant and Funding Solutions Company)
Location: South Florida (Remote)
Compensation: $25/hour
Type: Independent Contractor (1099) – On-Call / As-Needed
About Us
GAFS Co. partners with local organizations across South Florida to expand access to high-impact philanthropic and community funding. We work with nonprofits that serve Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties and provide them with strategic, compliant, and competitive grant writing support.
We are expanding our on-call grant writing team to support steady client work on an as-needed basis.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced on-call, as-needed Grant Writer to join our contractor pool. This is a 1099 independent contractor position, ideal for someone who already has a full-time job or part-time work and would like to earn additional income through flexible, project-based assignments.
You will be assigned one or two South Florida-based nonprofit clients and will write grants for them on a recurring basis, depending on open funding cycles, availability, and client needs. Work is fully remote, and assignments are provided based on your availability.
Key Responsibilities
• Write competitive grant proposals, letters of intent, and supporting documents for assigned clients.
• Conduct targeted prospect research for South Florida foundations and funders when required.
• Maintain and manage client grant calendars, deadlines, and submission requirements.
• Collaborate with clients to gather materials, program information, budgets, and narratives.
• Ensure all submissions meet funder guidelines and nonprofit compliance standards.
• Track hourly work for accurate invoicing through our contractor payment system.
• Communicate professionally using the GAFS Co.’s provided email address.
Required Qualifications
• Must live in South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County).
• Minimum 1–2 years of grant writing experience, preferably for nonprofits.
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
• Ability to manage your own schedule and meet deadlines independently.
• Comfortable working as a 1099 contractor (not an employee).
• Must have your own computer, internet access, and workspace.
• Organized, responsive, and able to work across multiple projects with limited supervision.
Compensation
• $25 per hour, paid bi-weekly on hours worked.
• Client work may be funded through a retainer, one-time fee, or award-based arrangement, however, your pay rate remains hourly and is not dependent on whether a client receives an award.
Ideal Candidate
• Already employed (full-time or part-time) and seeking flexible supplemental income.
• Able to take on assignments during evenings/weekends or in gaps between regular work responsibilities.
• Passionate about supporting South Florida-based community organizations.
