This is a remote position. The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) is seeking new, competent candidates for the position of ICM President to oversee the ICM Board and the vision, mission and strategy of ICM. The ICM Board comprises a President, 6 Regional Board Members, a Treasurer and an Alliance Board Member. The ICM Board is appointed by the ICM Council and serves a three-year term (with possibility of one tenure renewal). With the endorsement of their Midwives’ Association, any midwife who is a member of one of the ICM full Member Associations and meets the criteria set out in the Person Specification for the ICM President, may put themselves forward for nomination. Our Vision ICM envisions a world where every childbearing woman has access to a midwife’s care for herself and her new-born. Our Mission To strengthen Midwives Associations and to advance the profession of midwifery globally by promoting autonomous midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women and in keeping birth normal, in order to enhance the reproductive health of women, and the health of their newborn and their families. Purpose and Scope of the Position ICM’s President is accountable to the ICM Council for the governance and strategic oversight of ICM. The President also has specific responsibilities to the ICM and the ICM Board. These responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: - The President leads the Board to perform its duties and support effective relationships with the Chief Executive (CE) and the Head Office (HO) staff. - The President acts as an Ambassador for ICM’s mission advocating for midwives whilst maintaining and nurturing relationships with key influencers and government officials. - The President will work closely with the CE to support, advise and help shape proposals to be discussed at Board meetings, ensuring the focus is strategic. - The President guides the Board in overseeing the management and health of ICM. The President has overall responsibility for ensuring sound and relevant governance is in place and may delegate responsibility for governance processes and Human Resources (HR) to another member of the Board as Chair of the Governance Committee; and to the Treasurer for the financial performance of ICM as the Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. Requirements How to Apply To nominate yourself for the position of President of the ICM Board, please follow the steps as outlined below: 1. Review the Role Requirements: Download and carefully review the Terms of Reference for the role of ICM President, including the Person Specification for the role. 2. Complete the Nomination Form: Download and complete the ICM President ‘Nomination Form’. The Nomination Form consists of three parts:     a) Part 1: Nomination Details     b) Part 2: Professional curriculum vitae (CV) using the ICM CV template (to ensure comparison across international applicants, no other CV formats will be accepted)     c) Part 3: Signed Conflict of Interests Declaration. 3. Obtain a Recommendation from your Member Association: Download the ‘Recommendation Form from Member Association’ and send it to the President of your Midwives’ Association. Ask them to complete the form and send it directly back to you. You are responsible for sending this document to the IEC as part of your application documents. 4. Collect Additional Documents: - Obtain two references from professional colleagues that can comment on your midwifery and governance experience. Include them in your application package. - Include a copy of evidence of current midwifery licensure/registration/certification or equivalent. 5. Assemble and Submit Your Application: - Save all required documents in a ZIP file titled ICM_PRESIDENT_Nomination_YOURSURNAME; - The ZIP file must include: - A completed ICM President Nomination Form (all three parts) - A Recommendation Form from the Member Association of which the applicant is a member - Two references from professional colleagues - Proof of current midwifery licensure/ registration/certification or equivalent - Submit your application via the online application form. - Click on the blue ‘I’m interested’ button at the top or bottom of the page. - Fill in your details and upload the ZIP file via the ‘Attachments’ button. There is no need to provide a CV or cover letter. - Click on ‘Submit Application’. Application deadline: 19 April 2026, 23:59 CEST. Language of the Application - Nomination Form: All parts of the Nomination Form must be completed in English. - Recommendations: The Recommendation Form from your Member Association and the two professional references may be submitted in any language. English is preferred but not required. - Midwifery Registration/Certification: To help avoid unnecessary translation costs, your midwifery licensure/ registration/ certification or equivalent can be sent in its original language.
