About the Role

As a Chief Architect, you will play a critical role in designing and building a world-class payments platform that integrates with various systems within and outside Wayfair. You will lead the technical direction of our Fintech and Loyalty ecosystem, driving the development of high-quality, scalable, and future-proof services that meet the needs of our customers and partners. This is a unique opportunity to work on a high-impact project that will have a significant effect on the entire business.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead in the payments space, designing and building a platform that interfaces with various systems within and outside Wayfair.
• Develop and drive a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's Fintech and Loyalty ecosystem.
• Design and review code to implement high-quality, scalable, and future-proof services that meet the needs of our customers and partners.
• Lead technical discussions across the platform and help arrive at well-documented solutions.
• Drive high-impact architecture solutions and rapid development, including origination, design, implementation, and delivery following best design and coding practices.
• Focus on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting.
• Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet the department's technical vision.
• Influence and contribute to the department's strategy and roadmap.
• Support the growth and development of other architects through coaching, mentoring, and creating opportunities for education.
• Be recognized remotely as a collaborative and credible thought leader for the broader team's core area.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large company experience.
• Experience in payments engineering space, particularly with larger scale integrations (credit cards, debit cards, BNPL, applications).
• E-commerce or customer-facing technology experience on a high-traffic site.
• Involved experience driving software changes within high-growth environments at scale.
• Experienced in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based technology.
• Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and ability to influence outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

• Experience with cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale.
• Distributed systems experience.
• Data-based technologies in the cloud.
