Join the San Francisco Chronicle as a Data Reporting Intern for Summer 2026, contributing to data-driven journalism and interactive storytelling in a hybrid Bay Area role.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
• Report and write graphics- and data-driven articles for digital and print editions.
• Conceive story ideas and collaborate with editors and developers to enhance storytelling.
• Work closely with newsroom reporters to produce unique, high-impact journalism.
• Create assets to promote and distribute the team's work.
About You

• Strong news judgment, creativity, and meticulousness.
• Dedication to organization and documentation.
• Desire and ability to learn on the job.
• Ability to report stories and write and build quickly with a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
• Experience working with multiple, large datasets, preferably using Python, R, or similar coding languages.
• Knowledge of current multimedia storytelling and willingness to experiment with new engagement methods.
• Ability to collaborate with all newsroom teams in a fast-changing news environment.
• Preferred: Web development or data visualization experience.
• Preferred: Mapping or GIS skills.
Compensation & Benefits
• Paid 12-week internship, typically June to August.
• Hourly rate: $19.18 (rate as of 7/1/2025 subject to SF Minimum wage updates).
Training & Development
The intern will receive training and mentoring while working on a variety of stories from the office and in the field.
