Copy Editor - Women's Fiction

Remote Full-time
Company Description Left Field Publishers is an independent publishing label, not a vanity press. Our authors and editors prize honesty, courage, and resilience in their work, promoting greater representation and inclusivity by disrupting traditional genres, literary standards, and social norms. Role Description This role is for contract copyediting for The Sun in Winter, a poignant story that follows two women through heartache and healing. The Copy Editor will be responsible for the final copyedit of the manuscript for clarity, readability, grammar, and style so that it's ready for publication. The expectation is that the Copy Editor will use the Chicago Manual of Style. • Compensation: The current manuscript has undergone numerous rounds of developmental and line editing. The contract will pay $35-$50/hr., not to exceed $900. (This enables us to provide a highly competitive and equitable hourly rate while right-sizing the effort to budget.) • Timing: Work needs to be completed in the December-January timeframe. • Interview process: 1) applications reviewed via LinkedIn, 2) select applicants invited to sample edit 10 pages (rolling basis), 3) candidate selected and terms defined, and 4) contract signed. • Future work: Our goal is to expand our editing team so we can increase the volume of books we publish! Upon successful completion of this contract, the Copy Editor will have the option of joining our larger team and being considered for additional work in the future. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field • Proven experience as a Copy Editor with an excellent understanding of the English language, spelling, grammar, and punctuation • Expert knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style • Highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time-management skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines • Experience with fiction editing is preferred Book Teaser Rachel Crane had it all—loving parents, family wealth, and a sister she adored—until one night in Paris changed everything. Haunted by guilt, she takes on her sister’s abandoned dream and starts over in Chicago as a therapist. But when her fierce and complicated new client, Hailey Reynolds, pushes her to confront the past, Rachel is forced to face the tragedy she’s spent years trying to forget. Their unexpected friendship—laced with humor, heartbreak, and the messy beauty of healing—becomes the catalyst for forgiveness, redemption, and the chance to start again. Apply tot his job
